Yeah, I don't trust Facebook even a tiny little bit. It made me laugh when Zuckerberg was telling off the US government saying "People have no trust in the internet anymore", and I was thinking "The person I trust the least is YOU! You openly sell our data to everyone".
Ah well RIP Oculus I guess. CCP, any plans to roll Valkyrie out to PS4 and/or will it run without Oculus? If not, RIP Valkyrie too I guess :D The Indecisive Noob - A new EVE Fan Blog for news and stuff. Wholesale Trading - The new bulk trading mailing list. |

CCP have already talked about it it seems. I wonder if they will still be so excited when they realise their playerbase doesn't agree?
Quote:The developer behind the Rift's highest profile game, and the one that Oculus trots out time and again when there's new hardware to show off (EVE: Valkyrie), has nothing but praise.
"We're very excited for our friends and colleagues at Oculus," David Reid, CCP Games' CMO told us. "We share their vision about the future of VR and gaming and are looking forward to participating in the consumer launch of the Oculus Rift with EVE: Valkyrie." sign in to facebook for, share with your friends, post here to move on - oh god no... Even if it's not like that, I simply don't trust Facebook enough to trust they won't try to track everything to sell on. The great thing about the rift was that it was independently funded and wasn't just the agenda of a larger company. If I'm going to be trusting a larger company to push a product on me and the choices are FB and Sony, FB loses hands down. The Indecisive Noob - A new EVE Fan Blog for news and stuff. Source I wouldn't really expect them to say anything else. I honestly think they got lucky about Valkyrie being the flagship program for Oculus, and they can't back out now. They should just cut their losses, or migrate across to another VR system. There's another independent one floating about or Sony's one which will undoubtedly be pretty stable. When are people going to learn that Facebook doesn't attract gamers. It attract's middle aged women and children who want to build farms, cafes and breed animals on their phones. The type of person that's going to pay hundreds of dollars for a VR headset to play space dogfighting games is not a great lover of Facebook. I've heard Valkyrie will be hitting ps4 with their VR though. Is that right? So Valkyrie may live on. The Indecisive Noob - A new EVE Fan Blog for news and stuff. Wholesale Trading - The new bulk trading mailing list. |

Misunderstood Genius wrote:They should have made a great deal with Notch. This genius sits on a fast growing pile of money. But honest money paid by users loving Minecraft. They don't need a locust like FB who's just interested in figures and shareholder's satisfaction. Just a few deals with companies developing games will pay the bills and the development. Sad. Even visionaries can't resist and have their price. Very sad. The thing is they already had there bills paid. They got 10x their funding on kickstarter, and there are games lined up for it and there were more on the way, so they literally had to just continue on and they would have had a good product. But they are greedy and chose to sell out, and in doing so they've dealt a blow to the independent development as a whole. Even people choosing to kickstart projects they believe in will now need to think twice as most probably don't contribute to a product to see it end up as yet another way for facebook to gather data.
But ah well, the product is dead. May as well move on rather than keep beating it's carcass. there's the Sony one, one supposedly by Valve, and several other indie alternatives, so I'll see how the rest line up. I'm certainly not going to buying Valykrie for the PC though since it's going to be restricted to the Oculus as far as I know, unless this sales invalidates the exclusivity in some way. In other news, EVE Valkyrie is now dead in the water given the majority of EVE's playerbase probably doesn't want to use facebook, as we've seen with EVE gate. Valve isn't much better than any other company. They have an F rating on the better business bureau, mostly because of their horrible (non-existent) customer service. And have you ever read their EULA? Granted they are a little better than facebook, but that isn't saying much. PS: I was excited for valkyre, now I'm not. Hope CCP pulls their support from it and develops for another VR platform. The thing about Valve is that they may be a bit rubbish, but a lot of big companies are. The difference is they don't scrape every possible piece of data about you then sell that in bulk to literally anyone who asks for it. Since that's Facebook's primary means of income, that's always going to be their #1 priority. Facebook's product is it's users, at least valves product is games.
Not to mention that with Greenlight, Valve showed they support independent developers being independent, and they push indie games as hard as they push the triple A titles. The Indecisive Noob - A new EVE Fan Blog for news and stuff. Wholesale Trading - The new bulk trading mailing list. |

LordOfDespair wrote:They only do that because they make mad money off of greenlight projects at little expense to them. Not out of the goodness of their hearts. Of course they do, nobody would do anything like that for free, but the barrier for indie developers is lower which helps them reach a market.
